Since its inception on November 8, 1985, The Gadchiroli District Co-operative Bank Ltd. has been a beacon of financial inclusion and empowerment in the Gadchiroli district. Stemming from humble beginnings with meager resources, the bank has undertaken an extraordinary journey, overcoming challenges posed by the district’s Naxal-affected, geographically backward, and tribal-dominated landscape.
The bank’s vision was not merely to provide banking facilities but to weave a financial ecosystem that uplifts the rural populace, bringing them into the mainstream economy. With an initial network of 14 branches, it embarked on a relentless expansion, establishing a presence in every taluka of the district. This visionary expansion enabled the bank to serve the rural needy, catalyzing their economic growth.
Today, boasting a network of 55 branches, the bank’s business has seen remarkable progress, escalating from an initial 7 crores to an impressive 4000 crores. This growth isn’t just in numbers but in the tangible impact felt by farmers, salaried individuals, professionals, and rural labourers in the district.
A cornerstone of the bank’s success lies in its proactive economic planning and business foresight. Through various meticulously crafted schemes, the bank has empowered communities, facilitating loans, and financial aid to women’s self-help groups, totalling a commendable 75 crores. The establishment of 11,000 self-help groups and the support extended to 1 lakh families underscore the bank’s commitment to societal progress.
The bank’s commitment to financial literacy has been pivotal. The establishment of Financial Literacy Centres has been instrumental in imparting knowledge about banking services and government schemes, particularly to remote areas. Moreover, embracing technological advancements, the bank has brought convenience to doorsteps with Aadhaar-linked accounts, LPG gas subsidy disbursements, and a network of 35 operational ATMs across branches.
In its pursuit of digital transformation, the bank has spearheaded modern banking services like Mobile Banking, IMPS, UPI, RuPay ATM Cards, and E-commerce transactions. This step aligns with the ethos of ‘Bank at your door,’ ensuring accessibility and security while fostering trust and encouraging savings among the populace.
The bank’s tireless efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, garnering numerous accolades from prestigious institutions, including NABARD, the State Government, and various esteemed organizations. These awards stand testament to the bank’s unwavering dedication to excellence and innovation in the cooperative banking sector.
